A middle mountain walk which is the most accessible for those going through the upper Aravis valleys. The braver hikers will continue as far as the Aravis ridge, to Ambrevetta, where the view over Mont Blanc is particularly impressive. (Starting point- Arpette car park 1432m: Vertical incline-700m: Highest point- 2110m)

How to get there: From La Clusaz follow the directions for Confins and carry on until you get to the Arpette car park at the far end of the road that is open to traffic. Beyond this point, please note that access is reserved for farmers and foresters only.

Walking Route: From the car park follow the non-tarmacked road that passes by the base of the Grand Cret coombe and which leads to the Paccaly Chalet after the Bottiere chalets. From there you have two possibilities:

1) Take the track to the right of the chalet that leads to the little chalet known as 'Paccaly Dessus', then on to chalet de Tardevant slightly higher up.

2) Carry on along the road (slight descent) then along a forest path until you get to the marked stone (village boundaries) and the Bombardellaz mountain refuge. From here, a path on the right hand side slowly leads to the coombe and the chalet de Tardevant.

From this point the path goes up through the middle of the coombe and you will then reach the Tardevant lake, a small lake that is sometimes covered in snow at the start of the summer and almost bone dry at the start of the autumn. Follow either of the routes to return to Confins.
