The
mountain pass is a very popular spot
for tourists travelling by coach or car, it is also the starting
point for walks to the "Chalet du Cure" in a lush mountain
pasture setting with magnificent views over the Mont Blanc mountain
range. (Starting point- Col des Aravis 1486m: Vertical incline- 450m
downhill only: Highest point- Col des Aravis) |
|
 |
How
to get there: Leave you car in the village and take the ski
bus that goes up
to the mountain pass. Walking route: From the mountain pass,
walk alongside the road to La Clusaz for 200m, go across the car park
on your left-hand side an you will come to the lane after a little
wooden bridge. |
|
The
lane runs alongside
the mountain pasture stream as far as the junction with the chemin
du "Tour du Pays" (tour of the region) that you will take
on the right. Walk below the mountain chalet and cross the road for
the first time (be careful of traffic). You will come to a group of
houses known as the "Aravis d'en bas" (auberge). |
|
When
you have crossed over the road two more times, you will get to the
hamlet of La Serraz from where you will take the B-road for 100m. On
the left-hand side, follow the old road again as far as the route de
la Croix Fry. |
 |
|
Carry
on along this road for 300m, passing by a road on your left leading
to the Etale cable car. Before you reach the route du col des Aravis
take the route de Sence on the left (old mountain pass road) as far
as the Gotty chapel. One more kilometre down this road and you will
be back in La Clusaz. When you arrive you must be careful to go back
along the old mountain pass road, via the little lane beneath the
"La Chaumiere" car park. |
